The Western-Sno
Riders was formed by a group of volunteers who wanted to
foster the sport of snowmobiling by making trails safer
and more comfortable to ride. Emphasis was placed on
more family oriented snowmobiling, so as to get more
people involved in the activity. The economic spin-offs
were also taken into account, with the local economy
being the major benefactor. More people than ever are
snowmobiling, and it's mainly due to the fact that
trails and sleds are more comfortable to ride and with
routes connecting more areas, there are a lot more
places to go.
We have approximately 450 kms of trails linking
communities from Gallants to Pasadena, the North Shore
and South Shore. All this didn't happen overnight, or
with a snap of the fingers. There were meetings on top
of meetings, phone calls galore and one permit
application after another to get where we are today, all
thanks to people who volunteered their free time to
realize this dream. We have two BR180s that groom the
trails in the Western Sno-Riders area and these groomers
are fuelled by trail sticker sales.
When you
travel over the trails this winter, think about all the
work that went into the planning and building of that
trail, how that turn sign got to where it is, or how
much work and money went into the construction of that
bridge you just crossed. Think about how many hours of
grooming were spent to get that 'table top' finish
you're riding on and that just a few years ago that
direction sign wasn't there to show you the way to Deer
Lake, Stephenville or Bonne Bay Pond. And when you
arrive safely at home, say to yourself, I helped pay for
part of that with my trail sticker. If you don't have a
sticker, why not visit one of the businesses on the
Trail Sticker Locations page or call any one of the
Executive Members.
A big thank you to all of our supporters, whether you're
a sticker holder, corporate sponsor, in kind
contributor, or if you just attend one of our many
fundraising events we have during the year. It couldn't
happen without you. Have a safe and enjoyable snowmobile
season and here is hoping you always have "Happy
Trails".
